O apoio disponibilizado pela Câmara Municipal de Lagos à conferência "Alcácer Quibir: margens e contra-margens", e o interesse manifestado pela presidente Drª  para acolher a realização de um novo evento, resultou na presente iniciativa que se pretende seja a continuidade de "Alcácer Quibir: margens e contra-margens".

 

Lagos tem um vínculo especial com controversa figura de D. Sebastião: foi o Desejado  que a elevou a cidade am 1573, ao mesmo tempo que a fez capitania-mor do Reino do Algarve. Convida-nos, por isso, ao enfoque neste espaço geográfico, tanto mais que foi daqui que a armada sebástica seguiu para a etapa final da fatídica "Jornada de África". 

 

O título “De Lagos a Alcácer Quibir, margens e contra-margens”, surgiu assim de forma natural. E será com os olhos postos no mar, onde a imensa frota de D. Sebastião aguardava, cobrindo a baía de Lagos com mais de meio milhar de velas, que iniciaremos a nossa própria Jornada no dia 9 de Novembro.

Alguns dos conferencistas do anterior encontro de 24-25 de Julho, juntamente com membros da equipa de investigação do projecto “De Re Militari: da escrita da guerra à imagem do campo de batalha no espaço português (1521-1621)”, irão falar na travessia marítima e marcha dos soldados, destacar algumas das conjunturas mais relevantes da jornada de África (a resistência dos “sufis” e a guerra dos xarifes sádidas), e reflectir sobre a escrita de veteranos e cativos - o testemunho dos vencidos de Alcácer Quibir.

Lagos has a special bond with the controversial king D. Sebastião: it was raised to city status in 1573, at the same time that the newly appointed capitão-mor of the Kingdom of the Algarve took residence. It invites us, therefore, to focus our attention on this geographic space, especially since it was from here that the sebastic fleet went to the final stage of the fateful "Jornada de África".

Some of the speakers from the previous 24th 25th meeting, together with members of the research team of the project "De Re Militari: writing war on the image of the battlefield in Portuguese space (1521-1621)", will talk about the sea crossing and land march, highlight some of the Moroccan conjunctures like the Sufis part in the political events and the saadi ways of waging war, and reflect on the writings of veterans and captives - the testimony of the vanquished of Alcácer Quibir.
